Arsenal has locked up one of its stars.
Bukayo Saka agreed to a new contract that will keep him in North London until 2031, while also making him one of the club's highest-paid players, David Ornstein of The Athletic reported on Friday.
The verbal agreement had been put in place for several months, but has now been officially approved, per Ornstein.
The 24-year-old has become one of Arsenal’s most important players since graduating from the club’s academy and making his debut in 2018.
In 214 games, the England international has scored 57 goals, recorded 48 assists and helped the Gunners win the FA Cup in 2020. This season, Saka has contributed 13 direct goal involvements (seven goals and six assists) in 27 appearances.
This latest agreement is yet another example of Arsenal’s intent to keep their key players at the club for the foreseeable future.
Gabriel Magalhaes, William Saliba, Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri all signed deals in the summer after finishing the year as runner-up for a third consecutive season.
With Arsenal six points clear at the top of the table, Saka will hope to start his new contract on a positive note and help end the club’s 21-year Premier League title drought come May.
